The Lewis County Auditor's Office carries two critical responsibilities: safeguarding the integrity of county elections and maintaining accurate financial oversight. The Auditor administers elections directly, ensuring that only legally registered and verified voters participate in elections. The office is also responsible for reviewing all county expenditures to confirm they are properly authorized and accurately recorded. RCW 43.09.010 RCW Chapt. 36.22
The Auditor is supposed to be the Citizens Watchdog. "It is time for the Lewis County Auditor's Office to re-assess its processes, identify improvements, and re-prioritize its operations in the interests of improving accuracy, transparency, and accountability on behalf of voters and taxpayers."

Our Situation
After over 30 years of living in Lewis County, I have watched elections in Washington State become increasingly contested, with critics citing concerns about inadequate safeguards against fraud and manipulation. Lewis County has not been immune to these concerns — its voter rolls have historically contained inaccuracies that undermine public confidence in the electoral process. Correcting these inaccuracies is essential to restoring trust among voters and taxpayers.
Citizens are also increasingly questioning Lewis County's budget process against the backdrop of rapidly rising taxes and what many perceive as unclear priorities. By opening the County's financial accounts to greater public scrutiny, the Auditor's Office can improve transparency and accountability, thereby strengthening public confidence in county government.

Expanding voter education and increasing voter registration strengthens civic participation and empowers democracy.
